Bottle of the Month...

Our wine of the Month for April is the delicious pink rose that ha staken the Rose market by storm.....Whispering Angel. This is a rosé wine that has become extremely popular in recent years. It is produced in the Côtes de Provence region of France and is known for its light, crisp flavour and pale pink colour. The wine is made using a blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Rolle, Syrah, and Mourvèdre grapes and has an alcohol content of around 13%.

Origins of Whispering Angel

Whispering Angel was first introduced in 2006 by Château d'Esclans, a winery owned by Sacha Lichine. Lichine had previously worked in the wine industry in Bordeaux and had a passion for creating high-quality ros wines. He saw an opportunity to create a premium rosé that would appeal to a wider audience and set out to create the perfect blend.

Lichine's vision for Whispering Angel was to create a rosé that was light, refreshing, and easy to drink. He wanted to create a wine that could be enjoyed on its own or paired with a variety of foods. After experimenting with different blends, he settled on the blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Rolle, Syrah, and Mourvèdre grapes, which is still used today.

Popularity of Whispering Angel

Whispering Angel has become incredibly popular in recent years, especially in the United States. It has been featured in numerous publications, including The New York Times and Wine Spectator, and has been endorsed by a number of celebrities, including Drew Barrymore and Sarah Jessica Parker.

One reason for the wine's popularity is its light, crisp flavor. It is the perfect wine for warm summer days and pairs well with a variety of foods, including seafood, salads, and grilled meats. Additionally, the wine's pale pink color has made it a favorite among Instagram influencers and has helped to boost its popularity on social media.

Making Process of Whispering Angel

The grapes used to make Whispering Angel are harvested by hand in the early morning hours to ensure that they are at their freshest. Once the grapes have been harvested, they are sorted and de-stemmed before being pressed to extract the juice. The juice is then fermented in stainless steel tanks at a low temperature to preserve its freshness and fruit flavours.

After fermentation, the wine is aged on its lees (the leftover yeast cells from fermentation) for several months to add complexity and depth to the flavour. Finally, the wine is bottled and aged for several more months before it is ready to be sold.
