January 25th is a special date in the proud Scotpeoples hearts. It is a celebration of Scotlants dearest son and national poet Robert Burns life and poetry. The celebrations are held in Scotland and elsewhere and even the Scottish parliament considers the celebration of Burns night each year to be a key cultural event.
A key part of Burns night is Burns supper, These are formal or informal events. This includes the famous Scottish dish Haggis (Burns loved Haggis and wrote a poem about it called Address to Haggis.) as well as turnips and potatoes. This is washed down with Scottish whiskey and recital of Burns poetry. Many formal dinners are organised by Universities. Sporting clubs, private clubs and Freemasons. These evenings often finish with a traditional Gaelic scottish dance called Ceilidh.
