International Women's Day

March 8th does not get the required attention that it should in the international calender. This is the date of International Women's Day, which is to celebrate women's social, economic, cultural, and political achievements and to advocate for gender equality.

 

The history of International Women's Day dates back to the early 20th century when women began to organize and protest for their rights, including the right to vote, work, and hold public office. Since then, the day has become a global celebration of women's progress, as well as an opportunity to raise awareness of ongoing gender inequalities and to advocate for women's rights. It is a day to celebrate the achievements of women throughout history and around the world, and to encourage continued progress towards gender equality.

We at Homewood delights would like to honour all the beautiful ladies, aunties, grandmum's, mothers, girls, and sisters out there with a few recipes of concoctions that may make celebrating international Women's day a little more fun. Here are our personal favourites:

Rosé Sangria: A refreshing and fruity cocktail that is perfect for celebrating International Women's Day. Mix together a bottle of rosé wine, some sliced strawberries, peaches, and oranges, a splash of brandy, and a touch of sugar. Chill and serve with ice.

Mimosa: This classic brunch cocktail is perfect for celebrating women's achievements and success. Simply mix together equal parts of orange juice and champagne, and garnish with a slice of orange.

Cosmopolitan: This classic cocktail is a favourite among women and a great choice for International Women's Day. Combine vodka, cranberry juice, lime juice, and triple sec in a shaker with ice. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a twist of lime.

Margarita: A festive and fun cocktail that is perfect for any celebration. Mix together tequila, fresh lime juice, and orange liqueur in a shaker with ice. Rim a salt-rimmed glass with lime and pour the margarita mixture over ice.

French 75: This classic cocktail combines gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, and champagne for a bubbly and sophisticated drink that is perfect for celebrating the achievements of women. Shake the gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup with ice, and strain into a chilled champagne flute. Top with champagne and garnish with a lemon twist.
