Loose Tea or tea Bags ?

Tea is personal, I myself get very touchy when it comes to tea preference, In fact, I would admit that if I go travelling I will forget anything except for my favourite Tea leaves and a few cans of evaporated milk.....there...i said it. My partner does not get it, He is a Coffee addict and anything goes for him.

The good thing is that tea consumption has a number of health benefits, It improves your mood, cognition and reduces the risk of heart disease and diabetes.

Science says that brewing is key, if we are jiggling the tea bag for a few seconds in hot water then it will give a fraction of the bioactives that would benefit us, but brewing in freshly boiled water for 2 or three minutes will extract 60% of the bioactives.....The longer you brew, the more bioactives you get and the tastier the tea.

Loose tea might have more bioactives because in general higher quality tea leaves are used (this is because its hand picked from the optimum part of the plant for more flavour and health benefits) but the other argument is that teas in tea bags are cut smaller which enhances the extraction process. Loose Tea is fresher as it has a shelf life but T bags can be stored for years....Is that a good thing or bad....You judge.

As you can tell by my writing I am a person of aesthetics, looking at the loose tea leaves before and after brewing allows me to appreciate its beauty and reminds me of the journey this leaf has made from the mountains of far far away.... to my Cup.
